Notes on making payments to the SABG

Joining the SABG

If you are not a member, and you have browsed around our web-site to see what we do, you might look at How to join the SABG.

SABG Bulb & Seed Exchange: paying a donation

Members with a UK bank account can post a cheque (payable to “Southern African Bulb Group”) to the Treasurer, or make a bank transfer (“BACS”) to sort code 60-01-31, account number 59755709, with the account name “Southern African Bulb Group”1). When making a bank transfer, specify your name as the reference so that we know who it’s from. UK postal orders can also be accepted.

We cannot at present accept credit or debit cards directly, but only through the use of a PayPal account if you have one. We are charged a fee by PayPal, so use the methods above if you can.

To use PayPal, log into your PayPal account using a Web browser or the PayPal mobile app, click or tap on “Send” and enter the address pay@sabg.uk in the box. Alternatively, you can click on this link paypal.me/paysabg or type it into your Web browser’s location bar (not the Search box), but you will be asked to log into your PayPal account anyway if you haven’t done so already.

SABG Lachenalia logo

You will then see a page displaying the SABG Lachenalia logo and “Southern African Bulb Group”, followed by a box to enter the amount to pay, in £ (GBP). (Note that the PayPal app recognises the decimal point, but on the web page you can only enter digits for the pounds and pence, not a period “.”, so watch carefully where the decimal point appears as you type!)

We would appreciate it if you add something to account for the PayPal fees (which I believe are £0.30p plus 2.9% of the total). If you are an overseas member using PayPal, please add a little extra to cover the additional conversion and transfer fees, if PayPal doesn’t let you pay these yourself.

Please add a brief note describing what the payment is for, e.g. “new member” or “exchange donation”. Include your name if your PayPal account uses a name which we might not recognise. Although you are making a donation, you should accept “Paying for an item or service”. If it says “Sending to a friend or to family”, click on “Change” and select “Paying for an item or service”. A “shipping address” may be shown (but note that if you are making a Bulb & Seed Exchange request, Jon won’t see this, so make sure you sent him your postal address with your order). Click on “Send money now”.
